We have a team of 8 staff, led by the CEO & Registrar, who reports to the Council.
Iain McLachlan
CEO & Registrar
Iain is responsible for leading and managing the organisation as well as carrying out the functions of the Registrar, as set out in the Veterinarians Act. A practising lawyer, Iain also gives legal advice to the Council.
Before joining VCNZ, Iain worked in professional regulation in New Zealand and the United Kingdom and in private practice. He has a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration, both from Te Herenga Waka — Victoria University of Wellington. Iain has also completed Te Pōkaitahi Reo (Reo Rua) (Te Kaupae 4) programme with Te Wānanga o Aotearoa.

Seton Butler
Professional Advisor
Seton advises the CEO and staff on veterinary matters and drives the setting and promotion of veterinary standards and guidance. He serves as a key link between VCNZ and the veterinary profession.
A practising veterinarian, Seton has long experience in private veterinary practice, including owning a companion animal clinic. Before becoming a member of staff, Seton chaired on of our Complaints Assessment Committees and served on a Judicial Committee. Seton has a Bachelor of Veterinary Science from Massey University.
Seton is an adjunct lecturer at Massey University and a volunteer in Massey's Vet Start programme.
